We're doing a showing of various works, and they're struggling to hook up a new computer, so I thought I'd post a bit.
Yesterday I performed a Work In Progress, a duet being created by Kate Hewson and I. It's nice, the first real dance I've done in ages, and yes, there will be a video forthcoming. Today we're going to stage it outside, for a sort of traveling exhibition (the audience travels, not us).
There's also an interesting project being proposed for this evening involving inflatable icosahedrons filled with helium that will be tethered to dancers performing in the field at night. The inflatables will have high-intensity LEDs that should provide some interesting lighting or, at the least, UFO reports. As the person who conceived it said, "Perhaps this work will engender the kind of discourse I hope to achieve with the larger piece! That would be totally sweet! Holy f@#$!" (Yes, that's a direct quote. Evenings fighting mosquitoes, drinking whiskey, and talking about art and life tends to have an interesting linguistic variety.
Yesterday we also had a guest at dinner, the writer and former NPR producer Judith Strasser. I found it immensely useful to hear her talk about how she wrote her memoir, "Black Eyed Peas", and learn about her process and tools.
Whups. Here's the next presentation. More later.
