My wife and I decided, when we were planning our own wedding ceremony, that the first thing we wanted to do as husband and wife was to dance the Argentinian tango together. We'd been learning it for several months, loved the movie Tango, and plus liked the idea of surprising everyone. It was nerve wracking--she even had nightmares about it, but we created a little comedy version based on the bad dream. It was danced by myself and the dancer Sarah McAlister for an improv dance festival back in '98:
The wedding tango itself went off without a hitch. I still think it's one of the most beautiful things I've ever done.
So, recently, when a friend who is in charge of putting on a performance in a local club had her dancers cancel on her, she called me. "I need someone who can do some kind of formal dance!" she cried.
"Well, I think we could put together a little tango," I said. Idiote-moi! But it has actually been a blessing--we've had a great time putting together a few moves, and are really looking forward to the performance tomorrow. Part of it will be videotaped, so I'll be sure to put it up.
It's not dancing with the stars, but it should be fun. Nothing like this, but here's an example of how it should be done:
